As pollinators, bees enable our plants and flowers to reproduce and grow. This means they’re absolutely vital to our ecosystem, and without these clever little creatures we wouldn’t have the beautiful, natural environment we enjoy around us.
In the last 50 years, however, the UK has lost almost half of its natural biodiversity, with bee populations one of the species most severely affected. Habitat loss, disease and the use of toxic pesticides has seen a third of the UK’s honey bees lost in that time, with 24% of Europe’s bee species facing extinction. We believe it’s our duty to do everything we can to care for and protect these crucial bee populations for the good of our environment for generations to come.
Our mission is to protect and restore honey bee populations, creating an interconnected network of flourishing apiaries across the country to pollinate the whole of the UK.

We’re more than just a carbon offsetting programme designed to tick off businesses’ corporate social responsibility targets. We’re about creating real change and making a tangible difference to our environment that you can see, hear and feel all around you. Our apiaries are a haven for pollinators, set within acres of diverse countryside so your bees are able to fly freely and do what they do best.
A single honey bee can pollinate up to 1,500 flowers in a single day. Multiply this by the 60,000 bees that make up a typical active hive in the UK. Now consider that your hive is just one of many in that apiary alone, with many more spread across the country, and you’ll start to see the kind of impact you’ll be making.
Martin Knight started keeping bees after reading that local honey could help his daughter’s bad hay fever. More than a decade later, what started with a single hive in his garden became a full-time occupation, and in 2021 Knight’s Beekeeping was born.

This used to be daisy and flower free, they’ve made a conscious decision to support their bees and other pollinators surrounding their hotel. With the wind and rain easing this week, thank the Lord. it’s been great to not rush through the hives and take time to stop and really look at how they’re doing… plenty of pollen and nectar now coming in with more and further foraging flights, queens are really ramping up their egg laying and colonies are all expanding nicely!!! This frame shows exactly that with capped cells, larvae and, if you look closely, eggs! The comb is bright and golden from feeding on dandelions, bees love dandelions!!! They’re also bringing in plenty greenish pollen from hawthorn which is beautiful to see, those hedgerows will be laden with berries come the autumn, the birds will be thankful. When the weather permits, currently sleeting? I’m out and about opening the hives removing winter treatments for varroa and rearranging the hives for spring (brood box at the bottom, super on top), this winter has been really tough for the bees due to the excessive wet weather, on the back of the summer which wasn’t great either! This has hindered them getting out and bringing in fresh pollen and ironically fresh water which is vital for their health and existence. International women’s day is a day we recognise the achievements in the ongoing struggle for gender equality, acknowledging progress while recognising the long and winding road ahead… given a hive is made up by 98% woman, there are literally millions of women in my life. Their efforts are truly incredible, collaborative, strategic, focused, warm, tireless, efficient, caring and creative… they make brilliant decisions every single day about the colony , its welfare and existence. A busy morning using my GCSE woodwork skills… I knew I should’ve listened more.
